Please see Under the heading of The Retinue of Herstmonceux Castle, as we herald the welcome news of Sword Training and add another affiliated club to ourselves :D

NEW YEAR'S SHOOT 2015 (4th January)

Congratulations to all the Archer's who took part in this fun Shoot at the Castle in 2015! All 30 Archers who took part seemed to have a wonderful time, with some even stopping for free tea & coffee half way round!  Giggles were heard from across the woods, but unfortunately we didn't see the Deer today. Next year the course may be doubled but after a late start at 10:45am the fourteen targets were completed in time for the 2:30pm presentation, the winners were as follows:-
Cub Winners: 1st  LILY RICHARDS (590) 2nd FREDDIE HENSHER (540) from Rye Longbow-men.
Junior Winner: JACK FENTON (560)
Ladies: 1st JEAN BROWN 810. 2nd ROSS JACKSON (620) Canterbury bowmen 3rd TRACY SAMS (570)
Men's 1st TERRY CLARKE (1070) 2nd RICHARD BROWN (1000) 3rd DAVE SMITH (970) Ashford.

THE STIX OF HERSTMONCEUX CASTLE

Wonderful News, The Stix Drummers have agreed to get in Medieval Attire and join us at some events. This means Household members will have a drumming group to lead them into Battle, and that the public get the chance to experience a little bit more than what most groups offer. Plus, with  the purchase of another blue & gold pavilion in 2014 our groups will enhance any event we attend in our striking colours!

September 2014.  Well after the fun of the summer festivals, we now look forward to the Autumn, teaching and training at the Castle. We still have the Priory event and lots of other things in the pipe lines, from new tents to new arrows, including costume making evenings! I will be updating the site soon too with some members pics and details and also a writeup of the wonderful Englands Medieval Festival.
July 2014.  Having just got back from a Terrific weekend away at Tewkesbury, I thought I would take five minutes to try and update this site. Regular members will know they can get up to date news on our facebook page, but I do try and tie news in here, too!
We now have the second Clubhouse up at our "away" venue in Windmill Hill. The electrics are in, and the tea urn has already been used! I am still thankful for the fridge, donated to the club, by Joyce Whitely, which after the move - I am delighted to say still works and keeps our water, milk etc nice and cool during the summer months!
Everyone is looking forward to the big one at Herstmonceux Medieval Festival - but, I would just like to thank Tara Thomson and Grant Tiller for showing us the delights of Tewkesbury Medieval Festival, FOR PICTURES PLEASE SEE UNDER Tewkesbury Travels.
CLUB NEWS MARCH 2014.  To quote the Queens University students, I will have to use the word "AWESOME" - and that is just how wonderful the Castle has been to us. Thanks to the generous offer, from the Castle - our little club has the luxury of having not one, not two but THREE different places to play with our Longbows. Now just, how Awesome is that? We are so Blessed. Not just through this wonderful offer, but also through the members who have become family to us over recent years.
Recently, we have seen a lot of members coming to help, with the ground work.. Not just, setting up a new field course in some truly lovely woods where we always have more space than targets! But, also in clearing an area for the new Club house/ storage area. So much help and support, from so many wonderful people. Who knew, at Bentley Wood fair, we would be working so hard to raise enough money to purchase such a fabulous shed from Malvern Timber Framed Buildings.
